International Traveling Tips to New York City

New York City is a one-of-a-kind city filled with so many fun and exciting things to do. There is so much to explore while visiting the Big Apple. We have put together a few helpful travel tips to help you along

your way. Traveling internationally to come stay with us? See below for tips on traveling to New York City:


Packing Tips:

  • Don't forget your camera to capture all of New York City's iconic scenes
  • A light jacket is always a good idea to have for cooler nights
  • Pack an umbrella as they can be useful year round
  • Purchase an NYC map to be familiar with before you arrive
  • Leave extra room in your suitcase to make room for souvenirs on your return trip

Hailing an NYC Taxi:

  • Stand on the curb facing oncoming traffic
  • Available cabs will have a light on the top
  • Raise your hand and a taxi will drive over
  • Always exit the taxi on the curb side to avoid traffic

Travel Services:

  • Tipping is customary in the US. Not tipping is considered distasteful. Ask for a manager if you received poor service.
  • For restaurants, tips should be 15-20% of the total bill
  • For bars, servers should receive $1 per drink
  • 20% is customary for salon and spa services 


International Cell Phones:

  • Make sure to check with your cell phone provider for international plan options
  • If traveling with a smart phone, remember to connect to Wi-Fi when possible if using your hand-held mobile device often during your trip
